29 Faces - Feb 2017 03

Still chugging along! A little behind as I started missing some days, but I still am trying to (and not that far behind) finish all of the faces by the end of the month! I think that would be a first! This post gets me up to 19 (still have more I haven't scanned!!)

Weird day:
ended up spending time with people vs. sitting alone arting,
random guy kept talking to me at airport, resulting in
fast, quick drawing on baggage claim ticket.

left: single line drawing
right: finger painting with gouache

remembering that I like painting with gouache, a lot

29 Faces Feb 2017 - 2 / Monthly Visitors

29 faces and my Monthly Visitors Series meet!! The result is..... pretty much exactly what I've been doing all along! But it's good....I'm actually excited that I'm getting better at painting with the menstrual blood. It's definitely it's own challenge.....

#7

#8 This is the first day I really had NO desire to work on a face, but hey, I still did it!....

#9 - the color on this one will still change a bit...

29 Faces - Feb 2017 01

Another year of 29 faces! This time I'm trying to actually do a face every day. I'm doing well so far with 6 faces completed in 5 days, but we'll see. I'm not going to be at my place for a little while this month and I'm planning for it with a variety of mobile supplies and a single notebook that I'm trying to make everything in, but we'll see. I'm trying very hard to do something every day for the sake of gaining something a little different from this project this time, even if it means sometimes doing something a little more rough or just forcing myself to do something even though I'm not feeling inspired.

6 - woke up early this morning and thought about making my face and decided against it. By the time the evening came, I realized I still hadn't done anything and wasn't that inspired. I just started grabbing things that were immediately available. Not my favorite, but I did something it, so yay!

29 Faces 2/16 - 7

Obviously, I'm a little (little?) behind on the 29 faces for February, but I'm still going to try to finish. We'll see...at minimum I would like to do some of the things I have lined up/partially finished. These 2 collages are each made from 29 pieces of 29 different faces. It's been a while since I've done collage and I was reminded by these of why I like collage and how surreal and weird things can get pretty quickly. These took a bit longer than I had hoped, but to get what I want, sometimes it takes some scouting and creativity and I messed up one of them by trying a different adhesive that wasn't as compatible with the collage pieces as I had hoped. Fortunately, to me this 29 faces project is about experimenting and trying things out, which means things don't always work. With these 2 I'm over half way there!

29 face 2/16 - 6

These 2 Gelli prints are both made from a total of 29 faces - all of which are faces I cut out from magazines. You can't really see some of the faces anymore, but they are there! In addition to the 2 prints, I also made a time lapse video of the process (I kept track of the number of faces by adding pencil marks to the back of the prints as I was going along.)

... and because I can make up my own rules, #14 is the video of making the above 2 pieces!

I know I'm pretty much not making it by the end of the month at this point, but that's ok! I started late, I still have some things in progress, some closer than others to being done and I've already posted 14 groups of 29 faces! I will keep on going!

29 Faces 2/16 - 5

test face on the fridge! YES!
This group of faces took a bit of time. A few years ago I found a set of paint-your-own plaster magnet backed eyeballs after Halloween at Michael's for something like 10 cents. I painted them a while ago and then they remained on my fridge, staring back at you. Then a couple weeks ago I was standing at the bus stop and noticed this red O kid's magnet on the ground. I considered picking it up, but the bus arrived and that was that. The next day I was at the bus stop again and the magnet was still there. 29 faces was floating in my head and I realized the eyes and this red O were a perfect match:

So off I went, walking around outside, looking for well lit, ferrous metal surfaces or flat surfaces I could prop the face components on. As soon as I found my first surface I knew this was going to be a fun project! I shot all these photos on 3 different walks. I love how using the same exact eyes and mouth, common things are morphed into entire characters. Amazing what some temporary magnets can do!
