10 on 10 - June 2016

Wow! I haven't done a 10 on 10 in a while, but this past Friday I was inspired by a reflection in the morning and decided to go ahead with it since I had a camera with me! For the rest of the day, I kept my eyes open for more reflections and I'm pretty happy with the results! I love how reflections, shadows and other similar light and camera "play" lets you see your world in a different way.

10 on 10, May 2015 video alternative

Similar to last month's 10 on 10, I created a series of short videos vs. photos. I kept not making the videos 10 seconds long though, so it's a little imperfect in that respect & also always being a little more approximate in terms of once an hour... that's an idea I might never achieve, but I'm ok with that.

Studio City Farmers Market : flying rat : hummingbird : bike maintenance :  Rotary club of Sherman Oaks Arts & Crafts fair : dinosaur house : jacaranda in bloom : biking : wreck this journal "float this page": scanning negatives

April 2015, 10 on 10 alternative

I had been doing the 10 on 10 project for a while, but considering I haven't done it in a year, well... I suppose I've lost some interest in the current form. Part of it is the "boring"ness of my daily work life (which maybe should be a hint to me about something), but some of it is also is just wanting to do something different. So yesterday I decided to do a video version, 10 10 second segments (except I did 11 since it flowed better that way.) I really like how it turned out and maybe I'll try this again/similar idea for other things!

10 on 10 - April 2014

I decided to do something a little different this time for a 10 on 10 and tried to get an unobstructed view of the sky each hour. Surprisingly, the sky started out super clear and then became overcast throughout the day.  I like the result in showing the variation that I notice, but don't always document. Of course things were reversed this day - recently the sky has mostly been overcast in the morning and then clears up in the afternoon.

10 on 10 - January 2014

I know I had all sorts of ambitions last year to do 10 on 10s with different cameras. I kinda did it... I think I hit 3 different cameras. I also shot way more 10 on 10s than I ended up posting here. Life happened and the moment passed, I suppose. When looking at this first set for 2014, I was somewhat surprised by the consistent themes and repeating images. Sometimes I get stuck in these repetitious eye ruts where I see the same thing around me over and over all over the place. This then inspired visions of doing entire sets on themes (especially abstraction!), but we shall see how that goes. Anyway, it was a work day with window looking, working and self-transporting. And then I came home for the weekend & got a chance to look at my last roll of film from Burning Man that I developed last night. WHAT EXCITEMENT!

10 on 10, November 2013

A 10 on 10! I actually skipped some months and shot some others and just forgot to post them for a while. As life goes... And as is often said, the best camera is the one you have with you. In this instance, the camera closest at hand with batteries and space was  my kodak Easyshare sport C123. Not the best camera, but I originally purchased it for Burning Man. It had 2 attractive features: it ran on some easy to purchase AA batteries and it was waterproof. I still find it useful from time to time since it is one of my smallest cameras as well. It fails at close up photos, and this set fully displays such shortcomings! Oh well!

Hour intervals are approximate.....and I threw in an extra bonus photo to make up for posting this on the 11th.

...not the only "Thor" billboard that's been modified in the area....

Los Angeles has seasons!

a rat and a bat! Sadly only one rat :(

managing to capture most of my afternoon's activities in one photo: summer in a jar, tortilla soup and oatmeal

steelcut oats, carrot cake style with: carrots, apples, raisins, pineapple, spices, a touch of blackstrap mollasses and eventually, coconut and coconut oil = delicious

tortilla soup! Using my favorite soup technique of starting out with a base of veggies and seasonings, blending it in the Vitamix until it's nice and smooth and then adding in other stuff.

10 on 10, March 2013

Although I intended on using a different camera for each 10 on 10 , I decided to go with my Olympus E-520 again this month.

my sweet, always moving, impossible to take perfect pictures of, rat : watering some of my air plants (hopefully more to come on these guys at some point) : visiting the farmers market : clear spring morning in Los Angeles : walking around doing errands :  crow captures while walking around  : doing stuff at home : trying to get my sewing machine to work again : preparing for black and white film developing :  film development complete!
